What are the opioid overdose response instructions for adults and children? Do not remove the nasal spray until ready to use. For use in nose only.

Assess the Situation and Call for Help:

  • Check if the person is unresponsive or showing signs of an opioid overdose, such as slow or no breathing, blue lips, or pinpoint pupils.
  • Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
  • Remove the nasal spray from its packaging. Do not press or test the spray until you are ready to administer it.
  • Tilt the person’s head back to open the airway. Hold the spray with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger and two fingers on the nozzle.
  • Insert the tip of the nozzle into one nostril until your fingers touch the nose. Press firmly to release the entire dose of naloxone.
  • Note: The nasal spray is for use in the nose only. Do not use it in any other way.

Monitor and Repeat if Necessary:

  • After administration, watch for signs of improvement, such as increased breathing or responsiveness.
  • If there is no response after 2–3 minutes, administer a second dose in the other nostril using a new spray.
  • Stay with the person until emergency medical help arrives.
